Hi ya,
I just wondered what the FRIENDLY bars were in town so that a SWF (single white female) can meet some SWM (single white men).
Here in Shanghai there are a few places where the fellas are nice and friendly. Just wondered if KL had a few similar places. I am guessing an Irish Pub would be the first port of call.
Thanks for any pointers.
Cheers,

The main areas to look at would be:
Changkat Bukit Bintang - lots of bars including Irish pubs
Bangsar
Golden Triangle (near Petronas Towers - there is a road called Jalan P Ramlee) |

Thanks Shardy. At least I have a place to go to explore for my first week there.
I forgot to ask, are there any Expat Social Groups or Chamber of Commerce mixers and the like??
Sorry to sound so very uninformed on my new homeland but I have only been there once and I was in holiday mode then.
Thanks heaps for any insight at all on socialising.
I don't want to feel lonely in my new hometown.

One thing to bear in mind is that unlike China, in KL the social scene is quite integrated between locals and expats. Almost everyone speaks good English, so there's little reason to restrict yourself to socializing with other expats. Most of the people I hang around with are Malaysian, and I think the same is true for many people who have been here long enough to get into the swing of things here.
That said, there's a Facebook group for expats in KL - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2509117233 - that has meetups every couple weeks. _________________ Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.

I totally agree with Rajul on the mixing. That is something i have been missing from KL over my last 2 years in Beijing...
There are 2 other groups you might consider joining: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123696805080 . Tell me here you asked to join and I will accept you.
Anotehr one is more restricted, more for the elite, the ones you can find often at the same place . Since Rajul and Shardy are also admins of that restricted group, I think it is safe to say you could join http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6557856675 |

Well that is nice to hear then. So I can make alot more local friends than I can in Shnghai then?? Wonderful news!!
Huh. Can't do Facebook here cause the flippin powers that be shut it and twitter down last riot session.......I can't recall if it was Tibet or Urumuqi.
We can use some nifty downloads to get past it but I haven't bothered. Now I have a reason.
Anyway, if you need some kind of references abt me then just search my name on Shanghai Expat http://www.shanghaiexpat.com as I have some ramblings on that site and some nice recommendations. (you can buy anything in this country. ONLY KIDDING )
So, sounds like more of a semi-normal scene there. GOOD! _________________ Adrienne |

Well you should have gotten a VPN since last July (it was Urumqi). You can get some for 32 Euros a year.
I am using 2 different ones, for my home computer and one for the laptop. I think my daughters would have killed me if I had not given them access to Youtube :p . Hotspot Shield sometimes work, sometimes not... Not very reliable. |

| All the good looking SWM are more interested in Asian women. Honestly, if you go to cangkat raja chulan it can sometimes be embarrassing at how some of these swm (some are even married with children) behave. |
