Hi,
I am looking to come to Malaysia on the MM2H program but could do with some assistance from any Expats living in Malaysia.
I have two questions:
1) I am looking to live in a large modern town/city (supermarkets, malls, internet availablity etc) with the sea and a nice beach. Although I have my own ideas I would welcome any suggestions from Expats.
2) I have read many favorable things about Malaysia and enjoyed the it on my visits but what is the WORST thing about residing in Malaysia.
I look forward to any responses and thank you for your anticipated assistance. |

1. If you want to be that near nice beaches then Penang must be the best in West Malaysia. I expect many good options in East Malaysia but others here know more about that.
2. Worst thing is the red tape and amazing inefficiency of most organisations you have to deal with. |

| I would say Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. I do not know well the cities in Sarawak though. |

Kota Kinabalu is fast becoming a destination nowadays. As for Sarawak, Kuching is not far away from the sea. There is an apartment near Santubong which is close to the Damai beach and about half an hour from the city.
However, Kuching is very much a city with little to offer if you are into night life. It's a quiet place. There are a few islands nearby which are very much untouched.
You have a choice of the upcoming Miri with a few diving spots.
Sarawak is more for people who loves adventure, nature and cultures. It's a non Muslim state. And the Muslims are by far a lot more tolerant.
Red tapes and inefficiency is horrendous though... |
