Buying computer equipment

From MalaysiaExpat

Jump to: navigation, search

In general, computer equipment is reasonably priced in Malaysia. Expensive items, such as laptops and high-end desktops, tend to be cheaper in the USA. Low-cost items, such as adapter cables and small peripherals, are much cheaper in Malaysia.

The main spot for high-tech shopping is Low Yat Plaza, in Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang neighborhood. Levels UG, 2, and 3 are full of computer shops, large and small (mostly small), carrying a fairly diverse range of goods.

Nearby, Sungei Wang has a number of computer shops clustered on Level 3. And Plaza Imbi, across the road from both Sungei Wang and Low Yat, provides a seedier, down-market version of the computer mall environment, with a far higher concentration of dodgy DVDs and a correspondingly lower concentration of high-priced top-of-the-line items.
