Wifi
From MalaysiaExpat
Luckily for laptop users, wireless internet is easy to come by in Kuala Lumpur.
Free wifi access is available all over town, including most KL Starbucks (connect to the "TIMEZONE" network) and many independent cafes, bars, and restaurants.
Free access is also available throughout Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
For even more options, you can sign up for a paid wireless plan. Several providers compete to provide access in many upscale areas of town.
- Airzëd has about 200 hotspots around Malaysia, the vast majority of them in KL. Unlimited prepaid access plans are RM30 for one month, RM40 for three months, or RM140 for one year. Digi mobile phone customers can get access to Airzëd at any time by sending an SMS message containing the text "WIFI" to phone number 2000. RM3 will be charged to your phone and you will be sent a password good for 24 hours of unlimited use.
- Maxis has about 100 hotspots around Malaysia, mostly in KL. Access costs RM15 for two weeks. Maxis mobile phone subscribers can also activate via SMS, paying RM5 for one day's use.
- Telekom has by far the largest number of hotspots, and the best coverage outside of KL. Their service isn't always super-reliable but for people who don't live in the capital it's the best bet. RM28 for one month (RM18 for Streamyx subscribers).
